Methodology

What Bastwell is — and is not.

A short, public statement of method. Not marketing — a plain description of how the directory is organised, how figures on it are labelled, and the lines the platform deliberately does not cross. Written for operators, procurement leads, and anyone evaluating Bastwell before they list with us.

01 · Data

Jurisdiction-scoped data policy.

Bastwell organises its directory labels and intelligence by the regulatory jurisdiction each operator sits in. Cultivation rules, processing rules, novel-food status, novel-cannabinoid rules, and the relevant trade marks vary country to country and state to state — pinning an entry to its domestic regime is the first thing we do on intake.

Cross-jurisdiction signals are surfaced as context, never as a substitute for domestic review. We do not publish a completeness guarantee, we do not stand in for local counsel or the local regulator, and we do not issue a "globally compliant" tick. Jurisdiction references on Bastwell are pointers — they tell you which framework an operator sits inside, and where to read it yourself. They are not opinions on whether the operator is compliant.

02 · Claims

Estimated vs. verified environmental claims.

Estimated claim.

Modeled or indicative, never verified. Always labelled "estimated" wherever it appears on the directory. An estimate is a directional signal — a useful nudge toward a sector or a feedstock — and not a number to bank a procurement decision on.

Verified claim.

Independently verified by a named third party to a named methodology or standard. Always labelled with the issuer, the standard, and the date of verification wherever it appears. The presence of the label is the provenance; the label is not a stamp of current accuracy.

How this surfaces today.

Directory entries carry an isDemo marker plus a status of PENDING_REVIEW, APPROVED, or REJECTED. The vetting that takes an entry from submitted to publicly visible is an editorial review — clarity, completeness, and legitimacy of the operation — not environmental verification. Operators' environmental claims are the operator’s own. We review them for clarity; we do not forensically adjudicate them. None of the operators currently on the public listing have been independently verified by Bastwell.

What Bastwell explicitly does not do.

We do not arbitrate disputes between verified providers. We do not validate the underlying methodology itself — the issuer stands behind that. We do not back-stop the figure if it turns out wrong. The label identifies provenance; it does not buy the truth of the number.

03 · Scope

What Bastwell is not.

Direct lines. Each one is a deliberate boundary on what the platform does and does not do — kept here as a top-level statement, not buried in terms.

  • Not a carbon-credit registry, marketplace, or issuer.

A future environmental layer will offer transparent estimates and third-party verified credits only — never unverified credits, securities, tokens or investment products. It will not mint, list, or trade credits that haven't been independently validated.

  • Not a securities exchange, broker, or advisor.

Nothing on Bastwell is or is intended to be a security. There are no listings, no quotes, no recommendations, and no trade execution. We map operators, we do not price or route transactions in them.

  • Not a token issuer or tokenisation platform.

No native token. No on-chain representation of directory entries, no tokenised listing of operators, and no wallet integration. Directory data is published as a directory, not as a tradable instrument.

  • Not an investment product, fund, or portfolio manager.

No managed exposure to operators, sectors, or baskets. The investors on the directory are operators in their own right — counterparties to one another, not a fund surface.

  • Not a sustainability ratings provider.

Labels carry the publisher's name. We surface the label and the methodology it references; we do not grade, weight, or rank it.

04 · Position

How we position ourselves.

Bastwell is a directory plus an intelligence layer over the global industrial-hemp value chain — operators, jurisdictions, regulators, claims, and the documents that describe each. Operators find one another. Procurement leads find vetted supply. Everyone reads the same primary sources on the jurisdiction layer.

We are not building a marketplace, an exchange, or a wallet. The directory is the surface; everything else is qualifier. Corrections, dispute notices, or questions on this page go through /join or by writing to bastwell@polsia.app.
